Program Description:
Mission: The College Admissions Project (CAP), a project of the Young Leadership Council, is a volunteer mentoring program providing individualized college admissions guidance to low income or first-generation New Orleans public high school students. Vision: Increase college enrollment and create equality of educational outcomes for New Orleans public high school students. History: The College Admission Project began during the 2007-2008 school year, working with 51 senior year students. CAP has now reached over 400 students throughout Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. Program Model: CAP is a cohort program for 12th grade students at participating schools. Each school has a cohort of 25 students each year. Students are matched with volunteer guides, who provide college admissions assistance to their students. CAP is a same-gender mentoring program and guides are young professionals in New Orleans who have attained at least an undergraduate degree.
