It is the only comprehensive college readiness and support program dedicated to Chicago's growing northwest side Latino communities. By raising awareness of college as a real possibility, offering comprehensive long-term and targeted short-term programs and by supporting students as they complete college and begin careers, EVYP strives to play an authentic role in our students' lives. East Village Youth Program: - Serves students in grades 9-12 - Builds academic and study skills - Encourages career and college exploration - Focuses on goal setting - Offers students opportunities to be matched with a mentor - Requires parent participation - Offers a college scholarship to all students who successfully meet all program requirements Students attend a weekly program session with a set curriculum based on grade in high school. Topics covered include college matching, creative writing, ACT preparation, financial aid awareness, and the transition to college. Participants are required to maintain a C-average or better in all subjects in order to join and continue at EVYP. In addition, they must maintain 70% attendance and participation here. While the majority of our students live on the northwest side, our program is open to students throughout Chicago.
