EVYP, established as a non-profit organization in 1989, is an award-winning college resource and support center working to increase the educational attainment of Chicago's growing Latino population. It is the only comprehensive college readiness and support program dedicated to Chicago's growing northwest side Latino communities. By raising awareness of college as a real possibility, offering comprehensive long-term and targeted short-term programs and by supporting students as they complete college and begin careers, EVYP strives to play an authentic role in our students' lives. East Village Youth Program: - Serves students in grades 9-12 - Builds academic and study skills - Encourages career and college exploration - Focuses on goal setting - Offers students opportunities to be matched with a mentor - Requires parent participation - Offers a college scholarship to all students who successfully meet all program requirements Students attend a weekly program session with a set curriculum based on grade in high school. Topics covered include college matching, creative writing, ACT preparation, financial aid awareness, and the transition to college. Participants are required to maintain a C-average or better in all subjects in order to join and continue at EVYP. In addition, they must maintain 70% attendance and participation here. While the majority of our students live on the northwest side, our program is open to students throughout Chicago.
