Program Description:
Upward Bound at Lyndon State College is one of TRiO programs funded through the United States Department of Education. We work with 75 students in 9 high schools in the rurally isolated Northeast Kingdom of Vermont who are dedicated to achieving their postsecondary dreams. Throughout the academic year and the residential summer component of our program, we offer our students SAT preparation, college prep courses, college and career counseling, travel and volunteering opportunities, as well as financial aid workshops. Students also have the opportunity to tour colleges, attend cultural events and leadership conferences. During the summer our students have work study positions at local businesses, hospitals and libraries to provide community service and also gain professional experience to help them make decisions about majors and careers.

Mission Statement:
Upward Bound at Lyndon State College is a federally-funded program through the US Department of Education that is committed to providing modest-income, first-generation college bound students the academic background, college preparatory experiences and support needed to succeed in college immediately after high school.
Objectives:
The goal of Lyndon State College Upward Bound is to provide students with the experiences and the support to apply for and matriculate into college immediately after high school. We focus on exploration of the best fit college for them, and support students through the application process for admission and scholarships, as well as in financial aid workshops. Students work hard to maintain good grades in college preparatory courses throughout high school and participate in the opportunities Upward Bound provides, and in their schools and local communities.
