Program Description:
The Rutgers Future Scholars program is a 5-year pro-college program that introduces first generation, low-income and academically talented middle school students from our four Rutgers host communities (New Brunswick, Piscataway, Newark, and Camden) to the promise and opportunities of a college education. Rutgers University-Newark campus is currently serving 250 Future Scholars ranging from eighth through twelfth grades. Beginning in summer preceding their 8th grade year, 50 scholars become part of a unique pre-college culture of university programming, campus and cultural events, academic support, and mentoring that will continue through their high school years, and eventually college. For students who successfully complete the pre-college program, Rutgers will provide full tuition funding through scholarships and federal grants to students admissible to the Rutgers University. RFS-Newark integrates a breadth of academic and experiential components to provide a rigorous pre-college curriculum enhanced by instruction from skilled professors, career professionals, and our very own college students. This multifaceted approach allows our scholars to learn the intellectual and personal habits necessary to graduate from high school, gain admission to college, and succeed in higher education.
