Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families, high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree, and classify as low-income, and first-generation military veterans preparing to enter post secondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants enroll in and graduate from institutions of post secondary education.

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college courses and ultimately succeed in higher educational pursuits. Objectives:
Academic Program - The academic program takes place from September to May. Students take classes in English, Math (Pre-calculus, Calculus, Geometry & Algebra), Physics, Chemistry, Computers, and Counseling. Classes are held on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm at the NJIT Campus. Students also receive lunch weekly and a monthly stipend. Various activities and field trips are scheduled throughout the academic year. Also, tutoring and personal activities are available during the week. Summer Program - The Summer Component is an academic program taking place in July and August, Monday through Friday. During this period, students are provided with an intensive academic program consisting of courses in Mathematics, Statistics, English, Computer Science, Physics, Architecture, Space Science, Rockets, French, Spanish, Psychology, and Counseling. Furthermore, students participate in educational field trips, workshops and career seminars. Classes are taught by NJIT Faculty members and local school teachers.
