Program Description:
The Young Men In Charge (YMIC) Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to increasing the number of African American and Latin American males in the science, technology, engineering, math and law practices (STEM/L), through academic tutoring, mentoring and financial assistance programs. We intend to accomplish this mission through partnerships and alliances with K-12 school districts, universities and industry practitioners through corporations.
Objectives:
Provide Y-MIC scholars from 5th through 12th grade with mentoring and academic support through seminars, summer enrichment, community services, leadership and entrepreneurial programs. The Foundation will: - Increase the number of Y-MIC scholars that enroll in four year colleges and universities to major in STEM/L disciplines - Administer educational programs and expose Y-MIC scholars to these under represented careers - Establish and maintain partnerships and alliances with select colleges and universities for administering summer enrichment to Y-MIC scholars within these under-represented categories - Provide scholarships to Y-MIC scholars upon graduation who have satisfied the requirements of the Foundation, the parent/guardian, and the scholar - Implement funding through sponsorships and special events to ensure the Foundation remains a viable entity.
