Founded in 1998, TEAK is a college access and success program helping high-achieving NYC students from low-income families. Starting in the sixth grade, Fellows participate in a comprehensive six and a half-year fellowship which includes intensive academic preparation through courses in critical reading and writing, algebra, geometry, Latin, science, and humanities; individualized high school placement and college guidance counseling; innovative SAT & ACT preparation; a community service requirement; a mentor program; career services and internship placement; and leadership development opportunities. TEAK serves 175 students per year and also supports an Alumni group of 180. 100% of Fellows who completed their Fellowship graduated from high school and matriculated to a four-year college, where they cumulatively earned $36 million in financial aid. TEAK’s 100 college graduates include a Fulbright Scholar, a White House intern, a biochemistry candidate, a pharmacist, a lawyer, MDs, engineers, teachers, medical students, and law students.

The overarching objectives of The TEAK Fellowship are: • Help students build an academic foundation for successful, life-long learning. • Place Fellows in competitive and enriching high school environments. • Ensure that Fellows succeed academically in high school through their own talents and with ongoing support, while developing as well-rounded leaders and community members. • Help Fellows navigate the college application process and successfully transition to and graduate from selective four-year colleges.
