Established in 2010, the University of Michigan College Advising Corps exists to help increase opportunity for Michigan students, especially those who have limited financial resources, are first generation and/or underrepresented. As part of the larger National College Advising Corps network, we place recent University of Michigan graduates in partner high schools to serve as full-time college advisers – helping students to navigate and understand their various post-secondary options.

The University of Michigan College Advising Corps works to increase the number of low-income, first generation, and/or underrepresented high school students in Michigan who pursue higher education. We believe that all students deserve that chance to reach their potential to create a better future - regardless of income or environment. Schools served: Battle Creek Central H.S., Cesar Chavez Academy H.S., Chandler Park Academy H.S., Eastern H.S., Holland H.S., J.W. Sexton H.S., Jackson H.S., Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, Ottawa Hills H.S., Pontiac H.S., Saginaw H.S., Southwestern Classical Academy, Western International H.S., Ypsilanti H.S.

The University of Michigan College Advising Corps seeks to help more high school students pursue post-secondary education. Recent University of Michigan graduates serve as advisers in selected public high schools across Michigan. Working alongside school professionals, UMichigan CAC advisers identify, assist, and empower students to make the transition from high school to a post-secondary institution. Advisers work full time and focus on low-income, first generation students, mentoring these students through the increasingly complex and costly steps in post-secondary education. Advisers provide students and their families with relevant information regarding the benefits of a post-secondary education, preparing for college/university attendance, and the admission and financial aid processes.
