Program Description:
The South Florida College Reach-Out Program is an ongoing partnership implemented by Florida International University (FIU) and Miami Dade College (MDC). The purpose of the project is to increase the opportunities of at-risk middle and high school students to enter college. The students who participate in the program are economically and academically disadvantaged students in Miami-Dade county. The Consortium has been previously funded as a multi-year project designed to increase the number of low-income educationally disadvantaged students in grades 6-12, who upon graduation from high school will obtain admission into a post-secondary institution. This program is conducted in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). The College Reach Out Program (CROP) is a yearly and summer pre-collegiate program to serve middle and high school students. FIU concentrates in South Dade; MDC serves North and Central Dade. CROP is funded through the State of Florida Department of Education. In the summer, the program offers three options: CROP Summer Middle School, SWITCH-ON residential (summer residential program for rising 9th graders) and a summer dual enrollment for the rising high school seniors who qualify.
