Program Description:
Teen programming is vital to the overall mission of Riis Settlement and the College Access Program plays an important role. Bringing forth college awareness is beneficial for participants but it is also beneficial for Riis Settlement. It further showcase that Riis Settlement supports the cause for obtaining higher education and for helping participants to progress from childhood to adolescence and into adulthood. Our college access program also helps to increase community awareness. Having parent involvement in their childrens activities and helping them to understand and learn what kind of services the College Access Center offers, works to strengthen the relationships between Riis Settlement, the College Access Center and the parents and their children. The College Access Program plays the role of helping to nurture the ideas and thoughts participants have on potential career choices and what they want to do in adulthood. Helping the participants to understand that going to college goes a long way toward better monetary benefits, improved standards of living, and an expanded social network fall in line with what Riis Settlement wants to do for their teen participants.
