Program Description:
KIPP Through College is a comprehensive advocacy and support program for KIPP alumni that provides academic and personal support, high school and college placement, counseling, internship opportunities, career services, and social and cultural enrichment opportunities. The KIPP Through College program currently serves approximately more than 600 alumni in 82 high schools in and around metro Atlanta and boarding schools throughout the country; as well as college. Alumni Academic Support Our alumni academic support includes: counseling around course selection and scheduling of classes, academic support through tutoring and homework assistance, workshops focused on study skills and organizational skills, ongoing monitoring of academic performance, and developing relationships with key high school personnel. Alumni Activities Activities include: summer session to prepare a smooth transition from middle to high school, Saturday workshops including field trips and cultural activities throughout the school year, workshops for parents covering communication and college readiness, and after-school programming for tutoring and support. Alumni Counseling and Emotional Support Includes counseling around adolescent topics, workshops and guest speakers focused on relevant social issues, forums and support groups for students to connect with fellow KIPP alumni, and crisis intervention for students and families in need. Alumni College Placement Support SAT preparation and tutoring services, Summer internships and courses, assistance with college applications and scholarship competitions, counseling around college selection and admissions process, parent workshops about the college admissions process, and college tours.
