The Rutgers Future Scholars (RFS) Program is a five year pre-college program that introduces first-generation, low-income and academically-talented middle school students to the promise and opportunity of a college education. Beginning in the summer preceding their 8th grade year, Future Scholars from our four Rutgers host communities (New Brunswick, Piscataway, Newark, and Camden) take part in the Scholars Saturday Institute and the Summer Institute tutoring, mentoring, academic enrichment, and college readiness workshops. The program provides numerous hands-on learning opportunities for Future Scholars to explore various majors and career interest while working with university faculty, staff, and students. Rutgers Future Scholars who successfully complete the program and are admitted to Rutgers University will receive a scholarship covering the cost of their tuition for four years funded through a range of grants, scholarships, and donations. The RFS Program is designed to give the Future Scholars greater insight into the opportunities they have available to them if they put forth hard work, focused efforts, and a commitment to education.

The goal of the Rutgers Future Scholars program is to increase the numbers of academically ambitious high school graduates who come from less-advantaged communities, inspire and prepare them meet the standards to be admitted to colleges and universities, and then provide tuition funding to those who are admitted and choose to attend Rutgers University.
