About:
Program Description:
The AAPC advocates for students here at Northwest and at the Montgomery County School Board. Our activities have included a school/community wide summit to address the achievement gap and other issues, college trips, career days, participated in the NAACP Youth Summit, and BEYA (Black Engineer of the Year) Conference.
Mission Statement:
The African American Parents' Council (AAPC) of Northwest High School seeks to celebrate the achievements of African American students and to bridge any gaps between them and their Asian, Caucasian, and Latin American counterparts.
Objectives:
We hold quarterly achievement celebrations to recognize academic, extra-curricular and community successes. Our meetings included presentations and speakers discussing college savings and financial assistance, parent involvement and how to help your child prepare for college. We sponsored a school and community wide collection of magazines, socks and snacks for a Marine Battalion serving in Afghanistan. In addition, we have encouraged African American parent involvement in the PTSA and other school organizations.
